Manchester United and Wales goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel took time to meet Northop Hall Girls FC players after Wales’ match against Albania – and reminded everyone where her football journey began.
Following Wales’ match against Albania in April, several Northop Hall Girls FC players were proudly holding a Northop Hall flag in the crowd when Wales goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel spotted them.
Safia came over to speak with the girls, spending time chatting with them and taking photos. She was delighted to see the club’s flag and shared that Northop Hall Girls FC was the first girls’ team she ever played for.
She also signed the club flag, adding those special words beneath her signature as a reminder of where her football journey began.

Inspiring the next generation
Safia now plays for Manchester United Women and represents the Wales women’s national team, making her one of the country’s leading goalkeepers.
Her success shows the exciting opportunities available through girls’ football and serves as a fantastic inspiration for the next generation of players at Northop Hall Girls FC.
Seeing a former Northop Hall player reach the highest levels of the game is something the whole club can be proud of.
Our hall of fame
Safia’s connection with the club is an important part of Northop Hall Girls FC’s history, and her achievements make her a deserving addition to the club’s Hall of Fame.
Everyone at Northop Hall Girls FC wishes Safia continued success with both Manchester United and Wales, and we look forward to following the next chapter of her career.
