From humble beginnings to becoming a respected name in women’s football, explore our proud legacy and the honours we’ve earned along the way.
History
Formed in November 2008 as an all-girls/ladies team with an age range from under 7 years old right up to an open-age range Ladies team, where the idea was to create a location for girls to join a sports club within the local community in Flintshire, learn about teamwork, friendships and to belong in a positive environment, in Northop Hall.
Northop Hall Girls and Ladies FC played in the North Wales Girls League earning success along the way, progressing as we grew in numbers and teams. A football team that registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission Reg: – No. 1166715.
2010/11
Northop Hall Girls and Ladies were to join FAW Women`s Welsh Premier League after winning the North Wales Women`s Football League, but the Llys Ben base did not meet FAW requirements for the Women`s Welsh Premier League, so Northop Hall arranged to play their home games at Rhydymwyn FC men`s ground for 2011/12 to meet FAW league requirements.
2011/12
In 2011/12, the Women`s Welsh Premier League was split into 5 teams in the North, which were; Northop Hall, Wrexham LFC, Caernarfon Town LFC, Llanidloes Town LFC and Aberystwyth Town.
There were also 5 teams in the South; Swansea City LFC, UWIC LFC (Cardiff), Newcastle Emlyn, Caerphilly Castle LFC, Trefelin LFC (Port Talbot).
The team finished in fifth place in the new formatted league. Like all clubs, North and South, they would continue to play in their nominated Regional league and continued in the North Wales Women`s Football league.
2012/13
The FAW combined the North and South leagues to form a national single Women`s Welsh Premier League of 12 teams. Northop Hall were under the stewardship of Elain Owen at the time.
25th March 2012
Wales National team manager, Jarmo Matikainen, came to the Pavilion to watch the Betty Pickering Cup Quarter Final between Northop Hall Girls Wrexham LFC. This was his second visit to watch the players having viewed a combined team of Northop and Wrexham players who took on the Wales U17`s at the Rock home of Cefn Druids FC.
2013/14
The team continued to play at Rhydymwyn FC, and were managed by Elwyn Jones, but sadly would not survive in the league due to a lack of players. They withdrew from the national league in the winter break, having lost all 10 of their matches, and their results were expunged from the table. This was also the first time the FAW introduced a League Cup which Northop Hall were drawn at home to Cardiff City Women in the first round and were beaten 1-8.
2014/15
Northop Hall LFC returned to the NWWFL to rebuild and continue their commitment to the community. The team played Pwllheli LFC at the home of Gap Connagh`s Quay Nomads in the Maurice Naylor Shield during May 2015 beating them 3-1.
2015/16
The team were now called Gap Northop Hall Girls and Ladies due to an addition to their name via sponsorship. They now had over 100 girls as members from U8`s right through to the Ladies open range team. Their Ladies team became North Wales Women`s Football League Champions and beat Pwllheli LFC 3-1 at the home of Gap Connagh`s Quay Nomads in the Maurice Naylor Shield.
2017/18
Northop Hall LFC became champions of North Wales Women`s Football League, along with winning the NEWFA Cup at Buckley Town FC’s ground against Denbigh LFC. The manager was Steve Thomas.
2019/20
The Covid-19 Pandemic stopped the Women’s football competitions.
2020/21
The team were relegated into NWWFL Championship East. The FAW restructured the leagues across Wales with 4 Tier`s, which in turn formed two leagues in the North, putting Northop Hall in Tier 3.
North Wales Championship East consisted of: Northop Hall, Corwen, Wrexham, Welshpool Town, Denbigh Town and Holywell Town.
The present
Northop Hall Girls and Ladies FC are now settled at The Old Corus Sports Club on Rowley’s Drive in Shotton, maintaining their position as an all-female football club with age ranges from U7`s with a pathway for individuals to progress into the open-age Ladies team.
