BETHEL  1 V 2 NORTHOP BELLES  8th April 2017

For some strange reason this was the game i least expected to win, maybe because it was the old Caernarfon team that won the league against us in the under 12s. The match started evenly with both teams playing decent football. Slowly though we were getting the better opportunities and this showed when Anna Thomas got the opening goal. Again we continued to press and had some good chances to increase our lead, but from a very well taken free kick Bethel levelled the score before half time. Unfortunately the second half was marred by 2 sending offs for a daft incident (thats all we will say about that). This actually seemed then to help us as we started to get loads of space behined their midfield and had 3 good one on ones with the keeper. Eventually this paid off as Morgan Churchill was getting loads of space on the left and a good ball through to Anna Thomas led to her second. Bethel then pushed their best player up the pitch to try to get an equaliser but this gave us even more space at the back. Good win. Morgan Churchill was voted player of the match for us.

Straight from the off Prestatyn were straight into us. They alowed us no time on the ball and defended in numbers. As the away game the week before they scored early on and then got a second from a free kick. Before half time Anna Thomas pulled one back with a good individual goal going around 3 defenders and neatly finishing passed their keeper. At 2-1 down i still thought we could pull it back but just before half time they scored a third. Instead of playing our own game, passing through their defence and using the wings we tried to beat them at their own game with balls over the top, and as they were very good defensively it just wasnt working. On the night we lost to a better team. Abbie Bradley was voted Player of the match.

This was an important game for us, as we had not played a team from the top half of the table since before xmas. Prestatyn had got draws from all the other top 4 teams so it would be a good benchmark of how we would perform against the others. Game did not start exactly as planned as within the first 5 minutes Prestatyn had scored and in doing so Eva Gowen our keeper had recieved a knee injury and we had no substitutes. As in other games we slowly but surley grew into the game and had a number of decent opportunities to go level, if not into the lead. Second half we swopped the wings around and really started to put pressure onto their defense. A Morgan Churchill shot, which i thought the keeper had saved managed to creep through her legs to put us level. This seemed to spur us on as we really lifted our game, and the only thing that was going to beat us was the clock. With 5 minutes to go Leah Davies drove through their defense and finished in the bottom corner. It was a very good hard game and Prestatyn were well organised and quick out of defense and hit us on the break a number of occasions. Leah was voted player of the match, but all the girls did well.

Good start to the game especially as we had not played for 2 weeks. Straight from kick off we kept them in their own half. Firstly Morgan Churchill and then Captain Leah Davies scored. For the rest of the first half we dominated the game but could not get the ball into the net. Eva Gowen had to make a smart save to the corner of her goal to prevent Brickfields pulling one back. Second half was completely different. Imediately after kick off Leah got her second and then Anna Thomas was upended in the area and scored from the resultant penalty. Our fifth was one of the strangest freekicks I  have see, worked between Leah and Anna which went all wrong but still ended up in the back of the net. Leah and then Anna scored another each to take us to seven and then Abbie Williams scored a nice one from the right into the far corner of the Brickfield goal. To finish off a good day Alex Bell then fired one in from the edge of the box (cost me £10, fiver for the goal and another for the clean sheet). Abi Bradley was awarded player of the match as she played in 3 different positions for us on saturday and did well in all of them. Keeps us top of the league.

NORTHOP BELLES  8 V 1 RHYL GIRLS  25th February 2017

On top form this weekend. Rhyl came with a much stronger team than the previous week. They played the ball around better and were well organised. However anything we did anywhere near their area ended up in the back of the net !. Passing was great, we used the wings well and were strong in defense when Rhyl broke. Anything Anna Thomas got on to was hitting the back of the Rhyl net. Within 10 minutes Morgan Churchill had opened the scoring from down her favoured left. Then a strong cross again from Morgan was deflected into the net by a Rhyl defender. Then Anna Thomas got going. Some lovely passing from Morgan set her up for her first,  then a great defense splitting pass from Leah Davis put her in for her second. Her third was from a great header from Morgan again splitting the defense wide open, which she ran onto and finished into the bottom corner. Morgan then got our sixth again cutting in from the left and Anna finished off the half with our seventh. To be fair to Rhyl they played well and their keeper made a number of good brave saves. Straight from the whistle Anna made it eight and thats how it stayed until the end. Girls were strong all over the pitch. Abby Bradley played the second half as a centre half and did well. Chloe Brown almost had her first goal and was getting into some good positions around the Rhyl area. Beth Harrop has had a number of strong games at the back and this was another one.  Anna was awarded player of the match. Great result takes us six points clear.

RHYL GIRLS  0 V 8 NORTHOP BELLES  18th February 2017

Opposite to last week in that i was expecting a harder game as Rhyl have had some good results lately. Started well with us dominating the midfield and putting pressure on their defense. First to score was Anna Thomas followed shortly after by Leah Davies and then Morgan Churchill. Anna then scored a second to take us in 4 up at half time. Second half was a bit slower and Rhyl started to get a bit more of the ball and get it into our half. They had a decent winger but Elizabeth Coulton kept her quite all game. Our fifth goal game from a Morgan cross which was put in by a rhyl defender. I think Rhyls heads went down after this and Morgan and then Abby Bradley scored to take us to seven. Anna then finished off  with an eighth. Good passing on a sticky pitch and some  physically strong performances made this a good game to watch. Morgan was voted player of the match. We have them at home this weekend.

Harder than expected game. Tiny goals and a decent keeper sort of sums this one up. We had loads of the play passing the ball well. Some really good link up play down the right between Abbi Bradley and Elizabeth Coulton. We hit the post twice and if the goals had been the proper size we would have been at least 4 up by half time (we will get a chance to prove this when they come to ours). Second half was much like the first with loads of possesion but just couldnt put the ball into the net. Finally Anna Thomas got hold of the ball 30 yards out and drove right through their defense and hit a shot that was that hard a brick wall wasnt going to stop it to put us into the lead. A second goal would have been nice to finish it off, but we still came away with the three points. This puts us back at the top of the league. Morgan Churchill was voted player of the match as she constantly caused Brickfieds problems down the left. Fair play to the Brickfield girls as they defended well and were organised at the back, and their Lithuanian keeper kept them in the game with a load of decent saves.

BANGOR CITY  2 V 9 NORTHOP BELLES  04th February 2017

This was more like it. From the whistle 110% effort with loads of passing from all the girls. In the first 10 minutes the deadly duo of Anna Thomas and Morgan Churchill had put us 2 up. Then a bit against the run of play Bangor pulled one back. A further 3 goals, one from Leah Davies and 2 more from Morgan took us in 5-1 up at half time. Playing on a full size pitch with loads of space to run into was exactly what we needed after last weeks game. Bangor could not get to grips with Morgans runs from the left and Anna’s strength in front of goal. In the second half we switched the team around as it was an oppurtunity to play the girls in different positions. A further 3 goals from Morgan and another from Leah sealed the game (I cannot honestly remember who scored in what order as they were going in every couple of minutes!). Somewhere in the middle of all this Bangor pulled one back. Morgan was voted player of the match after scoring 6 goals, some of which were just brilliant. Special mention to Abby Bradley who I thought had a very good game out on the right wing, beating the defender every time and getting some good crosses into the Bangor area. Best passing ive seen from us this season.

This was our first league game of the year against a team who we had previously beaten by 15 goals. Game started as planned and we quickly went 2 goals up. The first came from top scorer Morgan Churchill followed shortly after by Anna Thomas. It then all got a bit scrappy. Eva Gowen had to make a sharp save from an overhit back pass and then a point blank header had to be tipped over the bar from an Airbus corner. It is fair to say that the  pitch would have almost fit in my kitchen and the goals were from the under 10s and having no referee on the pitch all did not help our cause, however Airbus had greatly improved from the beginning of the season. They gave us no time on the ball were a lot better organised and were able to pull a goal back before half time. Second half we just could not score. We had loads of  the ball and mostly in the Airbus half but could not finish. We voted their keeper player of the match as she made some good saves. Morgan Churchill was voted player of the match for Northop.

NORTHOP HALL BELLES  2  V  0 CAERNARFON  14TH January 2017  North Wales Cup First Round

This was our first game back after xmas, and for the first 15 minutes it showed. Our passing was a little erratic and we were constantly giving the ball away. However the whole team worked hard and didnt give the opponents any time on the ball which was preventing them rarely getting out of thier own half. Slowly but surely we started to take control keeping pressure on their defense and winning a number of corners. Being a cup match we had to play 11 aside and offsides, and we were caught a couple of times on the break but a good through ball left Anna Thomas one on one with the keeper and she neatly finished. Shortly afterwards Morgan Churchill latched onto a ball played right across the Caernarfon area and made it two. The second half was much like the first with a number of good chances to increase our lead. I cannot remember a single shot on our goal as the defense did a good job of marshalling their forwards out wide all game. It was good to see Anna Thomas back up front after a long period out with a knee injury and she was voted player of the match. We face Corwen away in the next round on the 18th of February.

NORTHOP HALL BELLES  0  V  2   CORWEN 17th December 2016

This game, after last weeks fantastic result just didnt go our way. First 20 minutes we just could not get the ball under control and had long spells of defending. After they went one up we appeared to pick up the pace and started getting into their half more and got a couple of shots on target. Straight after the second half started they increased their lead. It was pleasing to see we did not give up as we then got stuck in and for the last 20 minutes I believed we may have even got a point out of the game. To be fair, Corwen had seen how we played the week before and didnt allow us time on the ball, and they had a couple of key players back, where we were missing one from the previous week. We were beaten by a better team on the day. Well done to the girls who had to play in positions they were no used to. Leah Davies was voted player of the match for Northop. We have Corwen again in February in the cup, and although we remain top of the league, Corwen have a game in hand so we now rely on other teams to take a couple of points off them, with over 12 league fixtures left thats possible.

CORWEN  1  V  3  NORTHOP HALL BELLES  10th December 2016

What a performance by all the girls. Everyone gave 110%  all over the pitch and Corwen just couldnt handle us. I was a bit nervous about this game as Corwen were unbeaten and top of the league, however after the first 5 minutes I believed we could get something out of the game even if it was a draw. We applied lots of pressure on their goal and hit the post before, against the run of play, they broke and scored with a ball over the top of our defense. We continued to press, and a ball across the area tapped on by Abbie Bradley saw Morgan Churchill level 5 minutes later. For the rest of the half the ball rarely left the Corwen half. Within 10 minutes of the restart Morgan had taken us into the lead with a neat pass and move down the left finishing with her right foot into the bottom corner.  We never stopped pressing and you could tell Corwen were becoming frustrated as everytime they were able to clear the ball it was coming right back at them. Their keeper made a couple of decent saves  from shots outside the area, but could not stop Leah Davies when she drove into the box passed 3 defenders and hammered home our third. Game over.  I think Eva only had to make 2 saves the whole game, Sionedd, Alex and Elizabeth were strong at the back, never panicking when put under pressure. Morgan and Molly made good use of the wings all game and always came back and helped in defense. Midfield was relentless, closing down Corwen, Beth, Abbie Williams and Leah. Abbie Bradley up front and then on the wing held the ball up well and set up two of the goals. This is the best I have ever seen the girls play as a team. Special mention to Leah Davies who was imense in the middle of the pitch and was rightfully awarded player of the match. This puts us back top of the league. Brilliant.

Started well, kept the ball on the floor and passed the ball around well to feet. Captain Leah Davies got onto a good ball in the middle of the pitch and drove towards their goal and finished nicely into the corner of the net. It then got a bit scrappy with the 13s starting to dominate the midfield and putting a lot of pressure down our right hand side. A ball in from the left was not dealt with, allowing Olivia Davies to nip in between our defenders and level the score. This took us in all square at half time. Second half again our passing had become a bit erratic and the 13s played the off side trap  to good effect catching us out on a number of occasions. We then swopped the positions around pushing Morgan Churchill up the middle which after 10 minutes paid off when she slotted in a crossed ball to take us back into the lead. Again the 13s never gave up and applied lots of pressure down the wings, with some very tidy 1 touch football and continued to dominate the middle of the pitch. Slowly but surely we started to get our passes together and push back up the pitch. From a corner (we always seem to do well from corners), Morgan collected the ball in the penalty area and neatly side stepped a defender to then finish in the top corner which brought the game to a close. Leah Davies was voted player of the match with Seren Parsons the 13s goalkeeper, who made a number of good saves, being selected from the younger team. With Corwen not playing this weekend this will have put us back at the top of the league, with Corwen to play next week.

First 20 minutes were as expected with Northop appling loads of pressure on the Llangefni defence. We had loads of chances but could not get the ball into the back of the net. I was particulary impressed with the balls Abby Williams was getting into their penalty area, we just were not getting onto them and finishing. Then came a bit of a shock as the Llangefni forward, who i thought played well all game, broke and from a wide angle finished in off the far post. For the rest of the half again we kept them in their own half but could not score. Within 5 minutes of the second half Leah Davies replied with a rocket of a shot into the top of Llangefni’s goal, and from then on the game didnt look like anything other than a Northop win. However with about 10 minutes to go exactly like the first half, they broke and scored from out wide on the right. Again we piled the pressure on their defense with a number of corners being scrambled off the line but we could just not get that final touch to get it into the net. Fair play to Llangefni they defended well all game and hit us on the break. Morgan was voted player of the match (thats 7 times out of 8 games now). We voted their keeper player of the match as she made a number of good saves and was brave diving at our forwards feet on a number of occasions. Their manager even commented afterwards that she had never watched such a once sided game and was amazed that they won. It was just one of those days.

First 20 minutes was probably the best football I have ever seen us play. The passing was fantastic and often 1 touch, the Caernarfon girls just could not keep up with us.  Our top goal scorer Morgan Churchill opened the scoring with a run and shot from the left followed shortly afterwards with her second from a similar position. This took us in half time two up, but it should have been more. Second half we appeared for the first 20 minutes to switch off. Caernarfon had plenty of attacks up the middle of the field, hitting the post and forcing Eva Gowen into a number of good saves. Playing 8 a side probably started to hinder us as we are used to playing 4 in midfield with 2 wingers and this was leaving space in the middle of the pitch for the opposition to run into. Then what I can only describe as a freak goal, where we all thought the ball was going well wide of our goal after a deflected shot from the Caernarfon sticker, curled into our net. There then followed an anxious 10 minutes were pressure was put on our defense and again Eva was called to make 3 more fine saves, before we started to find our shape, regain our superior passing game and push futher up the pitch. Captain Leah Davies finally secured the points by collecting the ball from outside the box and driving through the defense to finish at the near post. Morgan was again voted player of the game for Northop. Special mention to Sionedd Cordiner who was solid in defense, kept calm when under extreme pressure from the Caernarfon forwards, and always seemed to come away with the ball, and turn defense into attack. Well done to all the girls as this was our hardest game yet. This puts us clear top of the table with games in hand. Brilliant.

NORTHOP HALL BELLES  6 V 0  COLWYN BAY  5th November 2016

Started a little bit slower than usual, maybe it was the early kick off !. Gradually grew into the game, passing became quicker and more accurate and started making good use of the wings. Abby Williams opened the scoring with a nice finish from a cross from the left wing. This was followed by an own goal as Morgan Churchill put a low hard shot that was deflected into the net by the Colwyn defender. Leah Davies then added a third with an unstopable thunderbolt feekick from just outside the area into the top corner of the Colwyn goal. Second half continued as before with some lovely passing moves, Abby Bradley had moved out to the left wing and was sending in crosses, one of which Morgan latched on to and finished nicely in the bottom corner to make it four. Morgan then followed this up with a headed goal from a Leah corner (worth watching this as it is on facebook). The game was not all one sided as Colwyn Bay had a number of chances with Eva Gowen having to make a number of brave saves at the feet of thier nippy forward who on at least three occasions was able to get into one on one situations with our keeper. Abby Bradley slotted home our sixth goal after a nice passing move through the midfield. Morgan Churchill was voted player of the match. We currently have a couple of games to catch up on, but so far have managed to win all our games, however we have some very tough ones coming up in the next month.  A great performance again from all the girls.

Probably our best performance yet, even though the score may not truly reflect this. As always started strong, lots of good passing to feet from all the girls. Made good use of both of the wings and getting lots of balls into the opposition penalty area. Morgan Churchill opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a run in from the left wing finishing with a neat shot into the bottom corner of the Llangefni goal.  Abby Bradley then latched on to a clearance from their keeper and powered straight  through their defence to finish and take it to 2. Second half again lots of good football, with captain Leah Davies controlling the centre of the pitch. Both Morgan and Molly Povey had good games on the wings and caused the Llangefni defence all sorts of problems.  After 15 minutes we changed the team around, pushing Morgan up the middle, which quite quickly lead to our 3rd goal as she drove through their defence and finished neatly. Again Llangefni were well organised and never gave up which lead to their goal with 10 minutes to go. Morgan Churchill was voted player of the match for us and the Llangefni goalkeeper for them. Consolidates our position at the top of the league. Enjoyable match to watch due to the quality of the football from both teams.

Another solid performance by all the girls, playing on a very small difficult pitch. First half the pressure was piled onto the Caernarfon goal and eventually after repeated attacks Morgan Churchill was able to take 3 defenders out wide and then cut in and slot into the far corner. The Caernarfon team were a lot stronger than we had come across so far this season and put a lot of pressure on our defenders. Second half Anna Thomas came on and quickly extended our lead to two. A further individual goal by Morgan then taking us to 3, followed by a neat cross from Morgan for Beth Harrop to seal the victory at 4. Again the game was never in doubt, but well done to all the girls for the amount of chasing back and defending from the front, never giving Caernarfon time on the ball. Special mention to Alex, Elizabeth and Sionedd who battled the whole game against girls twice their size!. Morgan was again voted player of the match for sterling work down the left. All round solid performance from all the girls which moves us nicely to joint top of the league.

COLWYN BAY  1 V  5 NORTHOP HALL BELLES  8th October 2016

Third game was definitely a game of 2 half’s. From the kick off the passing was excellent especially out from defence. Balls were to feet and the width of the pitch was used to good effect. Anna Thomas opened the scoring with a nice shot into the top corner followed by a nice cut in from the left by Morgan Churchill, slotting into the bottom corner to make it two. A fine individual effort from the left again from Morgan took it to three, with Anna adding another shortly after. A clever corner worked between Anna and Leah Davies, totally confusing the Colwyn Bay defence, saw Leah clean in on the near post and neatly slotted in to take us to five. Just before the half finished Colwyn broke through our defence and slotted in to the top corner to make it 1-5. Second half Colwyn Bay put a lot more pressure on the ball, not giving us the  time we had in the first half, our passing lost its crispness and we did not use the width as well. Because of this Colwyn grew into the game and a number of runs from their very quick striker saw her through on goal on a number of occasions with Eva Gowen having to pull of a number of saves. Although the game was never in doubt, credit to Colwyn Bay as the second half was a much tougher game. Leah Davies was voted player of the match. This result moves us nicely into joint second in the league.

NORTHOP HALL BELLES  6  V  0  BANGOR    1st October 2016

Second game started well. Lots of pressure put on the Bangor defence who did well and kept us out for the first 15 minutes. Abby Bradley opened the scoring after latching on to a good ball and slotted in to the corner. Morgan Churchill then added a second. A fantastic speculative shot form 25 yards from Elizabeth Coulton increased our lead, shortly followed by a superb individual effort from Anna Thomas. Second half goals from Anna Thomas and a header from Morgan Churchill sealed the win. Again another good all round performance from all the girls. Special mention to the defence who worked hard to keep Bangor out, especially in the second half. Player of the Match was Morgan Churchill who terrorised the Bangor defence down the left hand side all game. Credit to Bangor as this was a harder game than the result maybe suggests.

NORTHOP HALL BELLES  15  v  1 AIRBUS    24th September 2016

Great start to the season with a 15-1 win against Airbus. Anna Thomas started the season with 6 goals and new winger Morgan Churchill with 4. First league goals for Alex Bell who got 2 and Abby Williams with 1. Abby Bradley added 1 and  an own goal by Airbus finished the game off. Second half Anna went into goal giving Eva Gowen a run out. Strong performance all round. Airbus never gave up and continued to press and deservedly scored a goal late on in the second half. Morgan Churchill was voted Player of the match.
